Why Wednesdays are the new Fridays with early direct deposit

Early Direct Deposit

Today we’re gonna talk about paydays. That’s right, those highly anticipated days when your hard earned money drops into your bank account. 🤑

Some of us wake up on payday and check for that deposit right away (thinking about those sneakers we're gonna buy 👟), only to find out that our direct deposit is still pending! A hard earned paycheck, delayed another day due to traditional banks' "processing periods.” 🙄

At Step, we believe that there’s a lot of things worth waiting for in life –– Popeyes’ chicken sandwich, new Yeezys, your next thrift haul –– but your money isn’t one of them.

That’s why we’re thrilled to announce our early direct deposit feature, so you can get paid up to 2 days early. Stop waiting for your money and start making your weekend plans now.

What are you waiting for? Let’s get you set up with early direct deposit! 👇

To set up your direct deposit with Step, you’ll need to provide your employer with your Step Account information.

  1. In your app, tap Add Money (under your balance)

  2. Tap Set Up Direct Deposit

  3. Copy and paste your account and routing numbers and input them on your employer site or send your personalized direct deposit form directly to your employer. How do we do it?

Great question! When your employer sends your paycheck through direct deposit, they let the bank know ahead of time that the money is coming before they send the funds. That time in between is the "processing state", where you can see your deposit but it's still pending. While most banks wait until the money arrives before allowing you to access it, Step makes it available to you as soon as we get the notification from your employer. That can be up to 2 days earlier!

However, sometimes employers only send a notification the day before or on your payday, so we can’t guarantee that your paycheck will always arrive early. You’ll love depositing your paycheck to Step.

  • Get your money early. No more waiting on the bank to process and deposit your hard earned paycheck. Get your money up to 2 days early when you set up direct deposit with Step.

  • Access your money when you need it. No more having to go to the bank to deposit paper checks or asking your parents to deposit your paycheck. You’ll be able to access your money from your Step Account right away.

  • It’s easy to set up. Step has made it super easy to send your account information to your employer. It only takes a few taps and voila — you’re all set.

Early access to direct deposit funds depends on the timing of the submission of the payment file from your payer. While not guaranteed, Step generally makes these funds available on the day the payment file is received, which may be up to 2 days earlier than the scheduled payment date.
