The role

As Product Manager, Risk at Step, you will lead product decisioning and delivery in your product area, with an eye to Step’s overall business goals. You will use data and insights to prioritize your roadmap, articulating the why behind your decisions. You will partner with our Risk & Compliance team, and work closely with Data & Analytics, Design and Engineering in particular, as well as Customer Experience, and Growth to reduce fraud, improve user experience and protect Step customers.

What you’ll do

  • Improve signup and authentication experience, while minimizing unauthorized access to funds and data,
  • Improve the various money movement experiences (account funding, purchases, sending, receiving), while minimizing fraud and unauthorized access to funds.
  • Develop a deep understanding of the customer and the ever-changing attack patterns on our customers and business,
  • Work with data and risk to define and track metrics that balance user experience and fraud prevention,
  • Use data and insights to identify the highest impact initiatives: features, improvements, and experiments.
  • Evangelize risk initiatives across the company
  • Write specifications outlining problems & objectives, key elements of the feature, decision rationales, and metrics.
  • Partner with design, engineering, and other stakeholders to prioritize, build and roll out risk product features.
  • Measure impact and communicate learnings.

What we’re looking for

  • 5+ years of product management experience or equivalent, software engineering, analytics or risk operations experience is a plus.
  • Experience at a fast-growing startup in a cross-functional environment
  • Experience building, launching, and managing products at scale.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent analytical skills. 
  • Deep care for the customer and a drive to discover and resolve their pain points.
  • Experience in fintech or related consumer technology where consumer safety and security is paramount.

The team

Step was founded by financial industry veterans CJ MacDonald and Alexey Kalinichenko to provide teens and their families with financial tools for today’s modern-day banking needs and to promote financial literacy for the future. The founding team has 50+ years in combined financial technology experience across companies like Gyft, First Data, Square and Google.
