Role

As Head of Risk at Step, you will oversee the Risk organization being responsible for risk-related decisioning, UX, and minimizing fraud losses across the entire company.  The ideal candidate has experience leading high-performing risk teams at scale covering transactional risk, ATO, first party fraud, short term credit risk and is no stranger to making difficult decisions delivering both great customer experiences, while also mitigating fraud. Through your leadership, you will lead a world-class risk team to deliver on Step’s mission to improve the financial future of the next generation.

 

Responsibilities

  • Lead Step's Risk department to successfully mitigate fraud while maintaining a great user experience. 
  • Successfully partner with data science, product, engineering, compliance and ops teams to drive cross functional alignment
  • Own fraud loss outcomes and collaborate with finance to balance revenue loss, fraud loss and risk overhead costs
  • Manage and scale the risk organization to support Step's growth focusing on automation and technical solutions
  • Own results and feedback loop for risk prediction models to drive down false positives
  • Customer first mentality when approaching risk decisions


Qualifications

  • 10+ years of risk leadership experience or equivalent, data science or risk analytics experience a plus,
  • Critical thinking/analytical leadership experience
  • Experience in Fintech or related consumer technology dealing with high risk environments
  • Experience in combating transactional fraud and owning responsibility for financial losses
  • Experience with combating first party and friendly fraud attack vectors
  • Experience working with consumer product teams to improve good customer experiences while managing risk
  • Deep care for the customer, proactive, outcome-oriented
  • Highly effective at working cross functionally and collaboratively between internal teams
  • Experience building and managing risk teams including risk operations, analysts, disputes, and investigations
