Terms & Conditions
Step Black We may offer users a premium rewards platform with certain additional benefits ("Step Black").1 Step Black may be made available as an earned status, a paid subscription, or both, as advertised in the App or on our website, and may be offered as part of a broader membership program by Step or its affiliates.
Earned Status We may make Step Black available as an earned status at no cost. Users may qualify for earned Step Black by meeting qualifying activity thresholds within a calendar month, as advertised in the App or on our website, which may include a minimum amount of eligible Step Visa Card purchases or a minimum amount of qualifying direct deposits to a user’s deposit account at Evolve Bank & Trust. Qualifying activity thresholds are subject to change at our sole discretion. Upon meeting the qualifying thresholds, Step Black status will activate immediately and remain active through the end of the following calendar month. If a user does not meet the qualifying thresholds in a given calendar month, Step Black status will expire at the end of the following calendar month and the user will no longer receive Step Black benefits.
Limited Preview New Step users may automatically receive a Step Black preview upon joining, as advertised in the App or on our website. The preview period and benefits are subject to change at our sole discretion. Certain Step Black benefits, including EarlyPay, are not available during the limited preview and require earned Step Black status.
Monthly Subscription Fee We may offer Step Black as a paid monthly subscription, as advertised in the App or on our website. By enrolling in a monthly subscription for Step Black by paying a monthly subscription fee ("Monthly Subscription Fee"), you are authorizing us to charge your Step Account in the amount of the monthly fee on the same day each month as the initial date of subscription, as disclosed in the App or on our website. The monthly subscription will automatically renew every month on or about the same day of your first subscription ("Renewal Date"). The subscription fee is non-refundable and the monthly subscription fee will be deducted from your Step Account each Renewal Date unless you give us notice to cancel prior to the Renewal Date.
Affiliate Programs Step Black benefits may be made available to users through membership programs offered by Step or its affiliates, as advertised in the App or on our website. In such cases, eligibility for and access to Step Black benefits may be governed in part by the terms of the applicable affiliate membership program. Step reserves the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue Step Black benefits in connection with any affiliate program at any time upon notice to you.
Promotional Offers We may offer promotional offers such as free trials from time to time as advertised on our website or in the App. Such promotional offers are subject to change in our sole discretion.
Eligibility Step Black is available to Step users who are thirteen (13) years or older.
Step Black Rewards Step Black users are eligible to earn Premium Rewards. In addition to earning these rewards, certain additional benefits may be provided to Step Black users, including elevated rewards (e.g., higher multiplier on points), higher payments on Savings Goals, and certain partner perks as featured in the App or on our website.
Cancellation and Renewal Monthly Subscription. Subsequent to enrolling in Step Black via monthly subscription, you will qualify for Step Black benefits starting from the day you subscribe and continuing for a period of thirty (30) days and subsequently for additional thirty (30) day periods unless you cancel your membership prior to the Renewal Date. You can cancel your renewal anytime by providing notice to support@step.com or by reaching customer support within the App. Upon cancellation, your benefits will continue through the remainder of the then-current subscription period. Cancellation of your Step Black subscription will not impact your credit score.
Earned Status If, at any time, a user does not meet the qualifying activity thresholds, Step Black benefits will cease at the end of the then-current status period and the user will no longer receive Step Black benefits. A user may become re-eligible by meeting the qualifying activity thresholds in a subsequent calendar month.
Affiliate Programs If Step Black benefits are made available to you through an affiliate membership program, your Step Black benefits may be modified, suspended, or discontinued in accordance with the terms of that program. Cancellation or termination of your affiliate membership may result in the loss of Step Black benefits.
Family Accounts If a sponsor account holder earns or subscribes to Step Black, their sponsored account holders will also receive Step Black benefits. Step Black status earned or held by a sponsored account holder does not extend to the sponsor or other sponsored account holders.

Annual Subscription Fee. By enrolling in an annual subscription for Premium Rewards by paying a non-refundable annual subscription fee (“Step Black”), you are authorizing us to charge your Step Account in the amount of the annual fee as disclosed in the App. When you enroll in Step Black, the annual subscription will automatically renew every year on the day of the anniversary of your first subscription (“Renewal Date”). The subscription fee is non-refundable and the annual subscription fee will be deducted from your Step Account each Renewal Date unless you give us notice to cancel prior to the Renewal Date.
Eligibility. Step Black is available to Step users who are thirteen (13) years or older.
Step Black Rewards. Step Black users are eligible to earn Premium Rewards. In addition to earning these rewards and being provisioned with a black metal card, certain additional benefits may be provided to Step Black users, including elevated rewards (e.g., higher multiplier on points) and certain partner perks as featured in the App or our Website. Separate terms and conditions for partner perks may apply. More information on partner perks can be found here.
Cancellation and Renewal. Subsequent to enrolling in Step Black, you will qualify for the Step Black Rewards from the day you subscribe and continuing for a period of twelve (12) months, and subsequently for additional twelve (12) month periods unless you cancel your membership prior to the yearly Renewal Date. You can cancel your renewal anytime by providing notice to support@step.com or by reaching customer support within the App. Upon cancellation, your benefits will continue through the remainder of the then-current subscription period. Cancellation of your Step Black subscription will not impact your credit score.
Rules and Disclaimers
Up to 10% cashback on purchases with select Step Black Partners, and 1% on everything else.
Your Step deposit account is not an interest bearing product. The savings percentage is not interest, but instead earned as cash rewards directly funded and managed by Step. The rewards, if calculated as an APY, would be 3.00%. This percentage is variable and may change over time. See our Step Premium Rewards terms for more detail.
Ability to earn $100+ in the form of credits on purchases or statement credits for purchases with select Step Black partners, as will be advertised. Enrollment may be required.
Membership will be offered first to waitlist entries based on tier status on the waitlist. First tier recipients are Step Account user enrolled in direct deposit (from an employer or payroll provider). Second tier recipients are Step Account users that have made at least one transaction on their account. Third tier recipients are Step Account users that have funded the account at least once since account opening. Fourth tier recipients are users that have an active sponsored or individual Step Account. Fifth tier recipients are user that have signed up for a Step Account but have not yet been sponsored or verified their account. The last tier recipients are non-Step users. In order to order your Step Black card once you are selected from the waitlist, you must have a valid, active Step Account. Membership is available to Step users who are thirteen (13) years and older. If under 18, your account must be sponsored. The available number of selections from the waitlist is subject to change.

Step Black Subscription Terms
We may offer users a premium rewards platform with certain additional benefits (“Step Black”).
Monthly Subscription Fee By enrolling in a monthly subscription for Step Blackby paying a monthly subscription fee (“Monthly Subscription Fee”), you are authorizing us to charge your Step Account in the amount of the monthly fee on the same day each month as the initial date of subscription, as disclosed in the App. The monthly subscription will automatically renew every month on or about the same day of your first subscription (“Renewal Date”). The subscription fee is non-refundable and the monthly subscription fee will be deducted from your Step Account each Renewal Date unless you give us notice to cancel prior to the Renewal Date.
Direct Deposit Enrollment We may automatically enroll into a Step Black subscription users who receive (a) a minimum direct deposit, as advertised in our website or the Step App, of a paycheck, retirement benefits, other income from certain third parties, such as an employer or payroll provider, or (b) any other incoming minimum deposit from qualifying sources as may be advertised in our website or the Step App (“Minimum Direct Deposit”). Such enrollment will not be subject to the Monthly Subscription Fee. For each period in which the user meets the eligibility requirements for the Minimum Direct Deposit, the user will remain enrolled in Step Black. If a user does not meet the requirements for the Minimum Direct Deposit, the user will be automatically unenrolled in Step Black.
Promotional Offers We may offer promotional offers such as free trials from time to time as advertised on our website or in the Step App. Such promotional offers are subject to change in our sole discretion.

Metal Card Step Black users are eligible to purchase a black metal card in the App. Users are responsible for the cost and all taxes on the purchase of the card. Step Black Rewards Step Black users are eligible to earn Premium Rewards. In addition to earning these rewards certain additional benefits may be provided to Step Black users, including elevated rewards (e.g., higher multiplier on points) and certain partner perks as featured in the App or our website.
